Hi there, I saw an episode on the Woodworking channel that with a piece of string a spiral was mad and thne cut with band saw glued up and turned into a bowl.
I have been searching the net to see again with no success.
1. Was that you?
2. Is this video some where on the net that I can watch again or are there instructions? It seems the woodworking chanel is under going some changes and is not available.
Thanks, Don McFarland ~ Markhm, On Canada
Hi Don,
Here are the steps.
1) Use a 1/4" band saw blade to follow the spiral pattern on 1 3/4" thick planed stock.
2)Tilt and lock the band saw table to 3 -3/4 degrees.
3)Make the cut and glue it up. Follow all tool manual instructions.
Use a string and a number 10 screw to make the spiral. Tie a sharpe marker to the end of the string. Tie the 12" string to the screw. Put the screw in the middle of the board. Wrap the string around the screw. Stretch the string tight 3" from the center. Put the sharpe tip 90 degrees to the board. Then slowly mark the spiral pattern onto the board until the string is unwrapped. Brilliant!!!

Hi Scott, Always enjoy your shows and learn something each time. Are you particulary satisfied with a shoe or workboot for doing projects while standing on a concrete slab? ~ Thank you. Sincerely, Bos Sherman
Hi Bos,
I like Timberland boots best for ankle support. Plus antifatigue mats are excellent back savers. ~ All blessings, Scott

Hi Scott: I have watched your show for a long time and remember that in the past you did some shows that followed the building of your shop. I have now retired to Florida and live in an over 55 community that is starting a woodworking club. At our organizational meeting we had 25 people show up with minimal notification. Are there any website photos that show your shop that will indicate size and layout that we may be able to use as a guide for a facility? Any information that could be sent our way would help a great deal. ~ Thanks; Bill Vanderhoof Leesburg, Fl
Hi Bill,
I do not have photos of my shop. Here are the design tips that will help.
- Build it big. Wood storage really eats up shop space so you will need extra elbow room.
- Use energy efficient ideas to conserve utility costs. Like electric heat pumps or geothermal.
- Plus lots of insulation.
- Do ten foot ceilings for energy efficiency.
- Put it on a slab and wire the slab with both 120 and 240. Expensive but saves the trip cords.
- Put a Delta 1 1/2 HP dust collector at every three tools. Do not central pipe it.
- Use a one micron bag.
- Use full spectrum florescent with low noise electronic ballasts.
- Add lots of windows for natural light.
- Build your big workbenches. The more the better!
Have a blast! ~ Sincerely, Scott Phillips
