See the plans for this project

Hi Scott, Even though I'm not yet a woodworker, my young son and I've really enjoyed
learning more about woodworking from you through your television series, American Woodshop, as well as a recent feature article on you in the September issue of Woodcraft Magazine which is posted on your website.

I noticed in the magazine article, you are photographed sitting in your yard in a "keyed-slab cross-brace" chair. Your "one-hour chair" is also pictured on the same page. I'm in need of some outdoor furniture, and I'm wondering... Which chair is more comfortable to sit in? And which chair would be easier for a novice woodworker to build? (I may need to commission someone to build me the more comfortable chairs), since for me, comfort is key! ~ Deb

Hello, I recommend the cross brace chair because it is a very doable project. WBGU will be putting this plan on our website for free very soon now. Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate you and your son sharing the American Woodshop. That's fantastic! ~ Scott

One Hour Chairposted 11/05/07

I really enjoy your shows. I look forward to all new episodes. I hope that you will keep up the GOOD WORK.

I caught the ending of you making a chair on an episode of the American Homeshop series.  I have been trying to identify the chair ever since. I have found out in the Woodcraft Magazine feature article that you call it the "One Hour Chair." I hope that the chair will be one of the six plans featured in upcoming issues of the magazine. I really like the design and would like to make a couple of the chairs. If the plans are not one of the six can you direct me to a set of plans? ~ David Schelkun

Scott, I enjoy watching your program. On the program where you built the one hour chair you said that the plans would be on your website. I went to www.americanwoodshop.org and could not find the plans. Are they available and where can they be found? Thank you ~ George Smoley

Hi, I just saw your show for the first time. I didn't catch all of it, so I would like to view it again.  You, or a guest, were building a simple backyard chair using jigs to ensure uniformity and to save time.  Do you know which episode that was?  Also, are plans available for the chair? ~ Tom Hansen

Glad you enjoy American Woodshop! Season 15 is in the works!

The backyard chair featured in this show is from an earlier season of American Woodshop. Right now, only Season 14 episodes are being posted to this website, but I am working on previous episode distribution deals and hope to get some of the older programs up sometime in the coming year.

The plans and patterns for this chair are are available free to you on my new website ~ wbgu.org/americanwoodshop ~ They can now be found by clicking the Resources button! Watch for a very complete article on this chair to be published in the February, 2008, issue of Woodcraft Magazine. Thanks for watching American Woodshop! ~ Scott
