Cedar Point Memories, a production of WBGU-PBS,
Bowling Green, Ohio, examines the first 125 years of
history of America's oldest regularly operating amusement park through interviews, photographs, and rare film footage. The program traces the development of Cedar Point from its beginnings as the Great Lakes' pre-eminent bathing spot to its status as one of America's largest ride parks and the one with the greatest number of roller coasters.

Whether it's for a plunge on
the "Demon Drop" or "Blue Streak," winning a prize on
the midway, or just relaxing
on the beach, millions have ventured to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio over the
years. It's been a summertime magnet for those near and far from the Lake Erie peninsula.

It all began in 1870 when bathhouse facilities were built on a strip of Sandusky beach on Lake Erie.
The area was named Cedar Point for the groves of cedar trees that once outlined the peninsula. The resort continued to grow with the construction of the Grand Pavilion in 1888, which had bowling alleys, a dining room, beer garden, dance
floor and musical and dramatic performances including the top names from the
"big band" era.CP Beach

The hour-long documentary looks at how the park has evolved and has been a source of family fun and memories even during wars and the Great Depression. Cedar Point Memories weaves visual elements
with personal recollections
of former workers and visitors to create a true sense of the park in its
early years.

"We wanted to stir up memories for the countless visitors who may not have been to the park for decades as well as give a sense of what's no longer there to those who never visited before the park's entry into the current era," Shawn Brady, producer of the program said. "Even people who have never been to Cedar Point should enjoy the program since it will create a feeling of how society in general has changed in this 125-year period."

Cedar Point Memories is distributed nationally by American Program Service and is underwritten by Johnson and Higgins of Ohio and Society/Key Corp. Bank, both with headquarters in Cleveland.
