The competition took place in BGSU's Kobacker Hall on May 10th,1996 and featured over 600 students from Northwest and west central Ohio. Hosted by Marjorie Cronenwett, director of live entertainment at Cedar Point, and Dr. Richard Mathey, director of choral activities at BGSU, this production features great gospel favorites and colorful choir robes. Each school preformed two songs throughout the competition. One from the post romantic era, and one that is categorized as american music. Post romantic music is classified as music that started in the second half of the 19th century that had strong links between the composers and literature. As for American music, it is described by Dr. Richard Mathey as "folk tunes that were transcribed into choral selections." Judged by 3 local experts from the area: Dr. Mark Munsun, Assistant Professor of music education, Richard Dean, retired music education teacher, and Susan Roberts, 5th year teacher of vocal music education, the students sung their hearts out to impress. Songs that were featured in this production are as follows: "Enter His Gates with Songs of Thanksgiving" composed by Robert C. Clatterbuck, "Gentle Annie" composed by Stephen C. Foster, "Homeward Bound" composed by Marta Keen, "Turtle Dove" composed by Linda Steen Spevacek, and more.
