Honoring one of the great coaches in college football, WBGU has woven together
a story of a man who gave his all to the game and came away with spectacular results. Doyt Perry: A Coach For Life is the story of a man who came to Bowling Green State University and took a team from last place to first. Coach Perry was
an uncommon man who was admired by his players and assistant coaches - many of whom have enviable coaching records of their own.
Doyt Perry: A Coach For Life examines the spectacular coaching career of Doyt L. Perry,
Hall of Fame football coach at BGSU from
1955-1964. In addition to attaining the third
best lifetime winning percentage of any college coach, Doyt L. Perry had a significant effect on the players and coaches of Bowling Green State University. When Perry arrived at BGSU in
1955, BGSU was one of the worst teams in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). In his very
first year, BGSU fell one game short of winning the MAC championship. In the years following, Perry won five MAC championships and the small college national championship in 1959. Perry stepped down as coach in 1965 to
become Athletic Director at BGSU.

Doyt Perry: A Coach For Life looks at Perry's spectacular coaching career and his legacy that continues through those former players and assistants who continue to coach. It also celebrates the ideals associated with a group of individuals coming together to work for common goals, and the game of football as it was played
at a small campus in a simpler time.
Produced and directed by Emmy-award winner Shawn Brady ("The Chemo Paintings," " Cedar Point Memories."), the program is a collaborative effort of the public television station, and Bowling Green State University's Center for Archival Collections. The Center's director, Paul Yon, is the executive producer of the documentary.
