WBGU-PBS: Operation Reconnect

Connecting With Veterans & Their Families

WBGU-PBS is one of six public television stations across the country awarded a This Emotional Life grant for a community outreach initiative titled, “Operation Reconnect.”

The focus of this project is on exploring the remarkable resilience and resourcefulness of military veterans and their families, as well as the incredible sacrifices and challenges these families face.

As a local follow-up program to the national This Emotional Life series, WBGU-PBS will broadcast a live, two-hour, Our Community Cares: Connecting With Veterans & Their Families. This locally-produced program will explore the military reintegration issues veterans and their families face, and local support services available in Northwest & West Central Ohio.

During the national series broadcast of This Emotional Life, Jan. 4 - 6, and the WBGU-PBS produced Our Community Cares: Connecting With Veterans & Their Families program Jan. 28, phone banks of behavioral, healthcare and military support services professionals will be in the WBGU-PBS studio to take your calls.

Other “Operation Reconnect” activities include a “Military 101” training conference and a community event. WBGU-PBS also plans to record first-hand accounts of veterans and their families about the impact of military service on their lives, capturing the resilience of military families who have successfully transitioned after military deployment.
