Wood County farmer, Carl Bach, lost his mind in October 10th of 1881. Carl had been drinking when his wife said something that set him off. He then proceeded to beat her to death. The next morning he took a train to Bowling Green, Ohio to turn himself in. Carl Bach was convicted and hung in 1883 for killing his wife, Mary. Three of her fingers, used during the trial as evidence, are preserved in a jar at the Wood County Historical Center.
