Unlike teaching in a face-to-face situation where the "fair-use" exemption may apply, teaching in the distance learning environment requires that we clear right to each piece of media being used. All media used in the videoconference environment must be legally acquired and all necessary rights must be cleared prior to classroom use. If the appropriate rights are not cleared, the program cannot be used. These rights vary based upon specific use and type of media. They may include, but are not limited to, public performance rights, videoconference transmission rights, and multi-campus distribution rights.
